post-impocalypse: a field trip
Vengeance is a Hell that cannot forget the past. Places of violence sometimes waver and reveal their old scars, bullet holes reappearing in fixed tables. It hasn't even forgotten the fall-- white chalk outlines in some of the alleys show bodies bent and crumpled at fatal angles, bodies that if stared at long enough show the pale shadow of wings at their backs. Some of the damned have claimed these angel bodies, hoping for a patron in hell or a weapon against it should they ever stir-- or a favor from Asmodeus, if they bring a waking one to him.Space suddenly shifts, in a jarring, nauseating way, and you're falling into a landscape that's definitely a city, but not your Tokyo-F.
Beyond that, the cramped jumble of a city has the look of a place that belongs in a film noir, the light that's cast from the sky here washes out colors, and at night the fog comes in across the dark water and envelopes the city. So, in opposition to that, the occupied buildings are garish and loud on the inside and with their neon advertisements on the outside, demanding attention and refusing to bow to an environment that seems to want them silenced.
And land, unceremoniously, in an alley, the portal closing behind you. Nothing special about it, covered in peeling advertisements, full of shadows, littered with broken bottles and crushed cans and other kinds of garbage.
No one seems to have noticed you yet...

Hiryuu wobbles a little getting to her feet, little spatters of hissing magma blood dribbling onto the concrete below her, but--it's not nearly as bad as it could be, and Heroes Never Die anyhow. ]
So this is where it leads?
[ Not too surprising.... She looks around at the little group getting its bearings in the alley way--and is quite heartened to see she is not only not alone, but among some very friendly and familiar faces. Faces that might know exactly what she's thinking... as it dawns on her--and excitement grows-- ]
Do you think we're far enough off the radar we could go visit "a friend?"
no subject
[ Brushing dirt off her clothes, checking her over, doing some auto heals as one does for their master. ]
I was thinking the same thing, but hold still first.
[ Must fuss ]
no subject
I think my clothes are more or less done for already, Ki--Haku.
[ Listen, you get to go back to your treasured nickname here, where she doesn't want anyone to know your REAL name. ]
Especially if it turns out we have to do more fighting....
[ She will, however, hold still for healing. ]
no subject
That is true, though I would really like for you not to have to fight.
[ WHEEZE. Let him...protect. Even though her abilities are more suited to protecting. Being a white mage is tough. ]
I'm going to stand out though.
[ He is...in all pastel. ]
Perhaps we should find something that allows us to not draw so much attention to ourselves.
no subject
[ But truthfully, she's not in the greatest condition. Bloodloss aside, she swallowed all that ash and is definitely not feeling one hundred percent. ]
... That said, I may have to rely on you a little more today than I would normally like to, depending on how things go. Disguising ourselves might not be a bad plan, though.
[ Looking around. Apparently there were tons of cans littering the area. What about maybe... a dumpster? Someone might have thrown away some clothing or bed sheets even. ]
no subject
of course all the clothing is either pre-ripped a la bad end or sporting suspicious stains, but. beggars can't be choosers. ]
1/2
Leave everything to me, master...! I will protect you with my life!
2/2
. . . . . . . . . . . . . You wouldn't have your dragon dress up in trash, would you... ]
Re: 2/2
Here, let me buy us some time, at least.
[ Amaranth closes her eyes to concentrate, and then a swirl of leaves and petals form into a wall of nondescript rubble around them, by all appearances cutting them off from the rest of the alley. ]
no subject
[ Once she has made an illusion for the alley to give them some cover
SHE IS INDEED GOING DUMPSTER DIVING. Beggars can't be choosers, now, Kija... ]
Oh my, this is much worse up close....
[ trying not to breathe and leaning deeper into this dumpster, enough that her feet are off the ground while she searches through the refuse for
clothing. ]
1/2
There's just a second of shock. Before he immediately goes to drag her out of the dumpster. ]
MASTER...!
[ QUIET VEXED PROTESTING. ]
I... I will go instead, alright...!??
2/2
Stay.
[ An order to his master
. . . Turning around and so...very very reluctantly jumping up to climb into the trash heap.... while searching around for clothing for their group.
Gagging on several occasions and making woed commentary on how awful it is inside. ]
1/2
I don't think that will be necessary.
2/2
If you can find something in there that hasn't gone rancid, use it as a cloak.
As for the rest... well, I hope Clemency won't mind too much if I borrow her face.
no subject
Miss Clem's?
[ Hmm. WELL. She has no objection to seeing Clem's face again, although... ]
What if one of her underlings sees you and mistakes you for her? We should plan to pretend to be members of her gang just in case, yes?
[ surely this plan is foolproof and could not at all go wrong, in any way ]
no subject
There are a few things...
[ He'll throw a few shirts and pants down just in case anyone wants them. ]
And there are some sheets?
[ Unsure if they should make use of that either, but he throws that down too, before climbing out and doing as directed. ]
no subject
I don't want to try for maintaining a complicated illusion on all of us; it will cost too much of my concentration, and we all need to remain alert.
However, it shouldn't be too difficult to slightly alter your clothing and shadow your features. I'll save Clem's appearance for if I need to scare someone off.
no subject
... Well, at least... I never had a chance to take a bath, so surely with all this ash and black tar on me, that should be... something of a change of appearance, at least.
[ She will also see to... trying to braid her hair so it appears shorter and uh. other doable efforts to disguise her appearance. ]
no subject
Even with all of that you are still radiant, Master.
[ But now he's wondering if he should smear some dirt on himself or something... he managed to clean up before leaving to help others again. ]
no subject
that earns him a headpat, but also ]
It's okay if I'm not radiant right now. I'd much rather just blend in like anyone else. You might want to call me something else here, too.
no subject
You are always radiant.
[ . . . But he reaches down to grasp her hand. ]
If things get bad here, Master...
[ Leaning forward to rest his forehead to her own. ]
Please allow me to protect you. I won't stop you from fighting... [ He knows her abilities are built for this sort of thing after all. And she wouldn't listen if he asked her to anyhow. ] But be careful, and let me defend you as I am always desiring to.
