post-impocalypse: a field trip

Vengeance is a Hell that cannot forget the past. Places of violence sometimes waver and reveal their old scars, bullet holes reappearing in fixed tables. It hasn't even forgotten the fall-- white chalk outlines in some of the alleys show bodies bent and crumpled at fatal angles, bodies that if stared at long enough show the pale shadow of wings at their backs. Some of the damned have claimed these angel bodies, hoping for a patron in hell or a weapon against it should they ever stir-- or a favor from Asmodeus, if they bring a waking one to him.

Beyond that, the cramped jumble of a city has the look of a place that belongs in a film noir, the light that's cast from the sky here washes out colors, and at night the fog comes in across the dark water and envelopes the city. So, in opposition to that, the occupied buildings are garish and loud on the inside and with their neon advertisements on the outside, demanding attention and refusing to bow to an environment that seems to want them silenced.
Space suddenly shifts, in a jarring, nauseating way, and you're falling into a landscape that's definitely a city, but not your Tokyo-F.

And land, unceremoniously, in an alley, the portal closing behind you. Nothing special about it, covered in peeling advertisements, full of shadows, littered with broken bottles and crushed cans and other kinds of garbage.

No one seems to have noticed you yet...

Amaranth?

[do we need weapons out here... he sure doesn't look familiar with the place]

Duality.

[ She offers him a brief smile which she can only hope is reassuring. ]

Are you unhurt?
I believe we have found ourselves in the "Vengeance" district of Hell, if the behavior of our old wounds is any indication.

I'm fine, I think.

[he looks down at himself. a few of his scars have reopened, even the one on his face is blistering and angry red instead of old and leathery. he's still got his newly formed corruption too, which seems to be large patches of scars on his arms, hands and peeking out around his collar that look like ash and charcoal. as if the skin there burnt to a crisp]

Ah. Probably.

Vengeance...? Isn't that from— I was in a "Liar" part, during the, a maintenance. So this is the other one?
worthathousand: (❦ would it be enough to live on)

[personal profile] worthathousand 2020-07-26 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[ Her eyes scan the alleys around them, as if looking for something. ]

There are gangs, here, so we need to be alert. They can be negotiated with, but they take intrusions on their territory with deadly seriousness.
Do you have a weapon on with you?
asonoficeandfire: (228)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-26 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Right.

The weapon I used before now was a spear, but I left it back in the hotel. I can make something if I find metal, though. The amount I carry isn't enough for more than marbles.

[eight zillion beer cans can definitely make a spear or a dagger, true.

he'll look around for materials to futz around with, at the very least, enough to make his usual metal staff, as a start]

[ uwahhh... ]

Goodness. So you can even make objects that look totally different from the end product, huh? That's a very handy ability...
asonoficeandfire: (222)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-26 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. If I know the general design and how it works. A spear or a dagger is easy. I wouldn't be able to make like... parts of a computer unless I studied their makeup beforehand.

[he holds up the staff, and one end shifts to a rudimentary spearhead]

I could make it look better if read up on them more. Or if I design it myself and practice.

The ability to always have the right weapon for the situation at hand is a potent one. Definitely worth the research of learning their forms and function, I think.

But for now, I'm just glad to see that you won't be defenseless, here.
asonoficeandfire: (228)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, I've been practicing mostly on small details so far. I wasn't prepared for needing weapons quite this soon. I guess now's a good time as any.

But it has to be all metal. So it depends on the quality of it, and it might be too heavy to lift if it's too dense.

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-26 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oohhh... ]

Say--a spear is like a much larger arrow... You wouldn't happen to be able to make a bow and arrows out of that sort of material, could you?
asonoficeandfire: * (139)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-26 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't work with it if it's not metal, unfortunately. I'm not sure how well it lends itself to a bow... I don't mind trying, though? If you walk me through how it should look like.

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hmmm.... ]

Maybe another time then. I imagine making a bow and arrows out of metal are possible, but... I'm not familiar enough with modern technology to know how that would work.
dragonheartedgirl: (your joy brings me joy)

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides. We should make sure you're adequately equipped first.

[ She was a little selfish there. Sorry Duality!! ]

Do you think one spear is enough; do you need more metal?
asonoficeandfire: (273)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-26 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... I don't know much about modern bows, I just figured if it was metal, but I'm not sure it's bendy enough for a regular bow.

[no he's curious now because he loves this unit ability so much]

I can make another one if we collect more of these cans. Or if there's a metal bar or something around here.
dragonheartedgirl: commissioned from @frottage ; please do not reuse (Repeat that please?)

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-26 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe when we get back we can find a book and see. There must be a way to make a bow with metal... and Cardinal might know too.

[ they could have a GROUP PROJECT TOGETHER figuring out how to do it. cute cr times ]

As for another spear ... What if you use the dumpsters?

[ points to them

that's gotta be SO many spears. but. stinky spears. I'm sorry to this whole group that the dumpsters keep coming up,,, ]

[ WHOO HOO new cr goals ]

I bet even just the lid would be enough for a spear. Shall we go see?
asonoficeandfire: (11)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-27 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it should be enough for at least one.

[gonna head over and place his hand on it. at least he can detach it from the bin itself and try to mold it down to a manageable shape]
dragonheartedgirl: commissioned from @frottage ; please do not reuse (Waiting expectantly)

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-27 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ If he has any difficulties getting the lid off, she can always summon up her Heart Weapon to cut it loose from the hinges. ]

Do you mind if I watch you work? I've only ever seen Intensity do this once before...
asonoficeandfire: * (135)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-27 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[the metal actually just. molds at his touch, so it comes off easily]

I don't mind. I'm still learning how to use it, so changing a larger piece like this is different.

[personal profile] dragonheartedgirl 2020-07-27 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well then she's going to crouch down close to get a good look at it. ]

Fascinating. It's like you're making pottery without a wheel or clay....

[ and a bunch of metal... ]

Does it feel like anything when you're working with it?
asonoficeandfire: * (318)

[personal profile] asonoficeandfire 2020-07-27 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah... I suppose that's a good description of it.

And hm. I think it's similar to how my ice powers work from back home. Though I can create ice from thin air. With this, I actually need metal already in existence.
